Prashant Kishor Highlights Bihar Voter Sentiment Against BJP Leadership

Bihar's By-Election Results Signal Change

Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraj and recently elected MLA, stated on Tuesday that the outcome of the Bankipur assembly by-election conveyed a message from the people of Bihar to the BJP and NDA leadership regarding the need for a change in state governance. He claimed that voters rejected Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary due to his conduct, character, and image. Speaking to the media after the by-election results, Kishor emphasized that these results reflect public dissatisfaction with the BJP's leadership rather than a demand for a government change.

Kishor interpreted the victory in Bankipur as an attempt by the people of Bihar to send a clear message to the BJP and NDA leadership: appoint a more suitable individual as Chief Minister and focus on fulfilling promises made upon coming to power. He criticized the language used in political discourse, which included references to crime, incomplete encounters, and targeting individuals based on caste or attire, urging for a shift towards discussions on education, employment, and migration issues in Bihar.

Questioning the BJP's loss in a seat won by over 51,000 votes in last November's assembly elections, Kishor noted that local issues remain unchanged and attributed this upset to public discontent with the current leadership. He remarked that when the people had previously supported the BJP by such a significant margin, the roads in Bankipur were not in disrepair, nor had anything gone wrong. Yet, if the voters have now turned against them, it indicates a failure of the new leadership that the BJP has presented, which the people of Bihar do not accept due to their discomfort with the leader's behavior, character, and image.

Targeting Bihar's leader Samrat Chaudhary, Kishor further accused the BJP of placing a leader who embodies the very 'jungle raj' politics they campaigned against. He stated that if the party seeks votes against the jungle raj but then supports a representative of that same regime, the public will not accept it. This is why they voted against the BJP. Dismissing speculation about any immediate changes in the government, Kishor acknowledged that the NDA still holds a clear majority in the Bihar Assembly but argued that a change in leadership is essential.
