Pranavi Urs, a trailblazer and the amateur champion of the IGPL Mumbai tour, is gearing up to compete alongside golfing icon Jeev Milkha Singh at the much-anticipated final leg of the IGPL Tour in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This tournament is set to mark a spectacular conclusion to a groundbreaking inaugural season, which has showcased extraordinary performances and historic milestones, according to a statement from the Indian Golf Premier League.
New Faces and Competitive Spirit
For the first time, former Asian Tour No. 1 Jyot Randhawa will join the competition, playing alongside Jeev in the European Legends Tour. With a stellar lineup of participants, golf fans can look forward to top-tier competition as the tour reaches its thrilling climax on an international platform.
Notable Performers of the Season
Gaganjeet Bhullar set a high benchmark by winning the first two events at Chandigarh and Jaypee Greens. SSP Chawrasia, a seasoned player with six Asian Tour victories, has consistently showcased his championship experience throughout the season. Recently, Bhullar also secured third place at the IGPL Invitational in Ahmedabad after balancing his commitments on the International Series and Asian Tour, along with family obligations.
Aman Raj Leads the Order of Merit
Aman Raj has emerged as the standout player of the season, clinching victories in Jaipur and Kolkata with impressive performances. The 30-year-old golfer recorded remarkable rounds of 9-under 61 three times in just four rounds, showcasing his consistency and skill that have propelled him to the top of the standings. With earnings exceeding Rs. 60 lakhs, Aman leads a competitive field that includes Pukhraj Singh Gill, who celebrated his first professional title with a record nine-shot win at Jamshedpur, and Kapil Kumar, the champion from Pune. The Colombo finale will be pivotal as players compete for the prestigious Order of Merit title and the associated rewards, including spots in the International Series India and Asian Tour Qualifying.
A Season of Historic Achievements
A significant highlight of the season occurred at Mumbai's Bombay Presidency Golf Club, where Pranavi Urs made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a professional tournament against male competitors. In her IGPL debut, she delivered an impressive bogey-free 8-under 60 in the final round, overcoming a two-shot deficit to defeat her boyfriend, Karandeep Kochhar, by two strokes. Her victory received widespread recognition, with IOA President PT Usha commending her achievement as evidence that 'champions transcend gender.'
Ridhima Dilawari, another skilled female golfer, will also participate in Colombo, joining a diverse field of 47 professionals and 13 amateurs from India and Sri Lanka, ensuring that the tour concludes with the same inclusive spirit that has characterized its inaugural season.
