Bodoland Chief's Optimism Ahead of Elections

Kokrajhar, August 17: As the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections approach, Pramod Boro, the Chief of Bodoland and president of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), expressed strong confidence that his party will secure the position of the largest political force, dismissing both the Congress and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) as ineffective in the region.

During a press conference on Sunday, Boro criticized the Congress for having 'long abandoned' the Bodoland area, claiming it lacks both visibility and organizational strength within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

He stated, 'It appears that the Congress is not even interested in forming a government here. Their campaigns lack vigor, and their organizational presence is weak in BTR.'

Boro also expressed skepticism regarding the BPF, predicting that they would only achieve 'single digits' in the upcoming elections.

'The main issue with the BPF is their leader, Hagrama Mohilary, who has not attended the Assembly in the last five years. If a leader is silent in the Assembly, how can the public understand the party's agenda or vision?' he commented.

Positioning the UPPL as the leading contender, Boro emphasized that his party has established a robust network of campaign teams, supported by senior leaders.

'We are confident that we will secure the necessary numbers to form the next council and lead the government once again,' he asserted.

In addition to political assertions, Boro highlighted his government’s achievements in development, citing rapid infrastructure projects throughout the BTR.

Out of the Rs 260 crore infrastructure grant allocated this year, Rs 117 crore has already been spent in Kokrajhar alone.

'From a Rs 110-crore stadium to space labs in schools, cinema halls, guest houses, hostels, and cultural centers—we are developing BTR at an impressive pace,' he stated.

He pointed out several projects, including the foundation stones for a Rs 1-crore law college extension, a Rs 60-lakh Satra building, a Rs 1.5-crore mini stadium in Gosaigaon, and a Rs 25-lakh cultural center at Ramphal Beel, along with a Rs 250-crore rail wagon factory in Basbari.

Boro also inaugurated the headquarters and auditorium of the BTR Keot Jatiya Parishad in Tamulpur, committing to enhance infrastructure, museums, and welfare initiatives for indigenous communities through the Bodoland Happiness Mission.

'We aim to preserve the unique identities of the 26 communities residing here so that none fade away,' Boro remarked.

With development as the central theme of their campaign, the UPPL chief asserted that the council elections would significantly favor his party.
