Pralhad Joshi Takes Over as Union Education Minister Amid Examination Controversies

New Delhi, July 26: Following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, who stepped down amid widespread protests regarding alleged examination paper leaks, Pralhad Joshi has officially taken over as the Union Minister for Education.
Upon assuming his new role, Joshi expressed that he dedicated his first day to understanding the ministry's operations and current challenges.
He stated, "I have been engaged in meetings from around 10 am to 3 pm to grasp all necessary details for informed decision-making. Since this is a new area for me, I will provide a comprehensive update once I have a clearer understanding of the ministry's workings."
This leadership change occurred shortly after President Droupadi Murmu accepted Pradhan's resignation from the Union Council of Ministers, acting on Prime Minister Modi's recommendation, as per Article 75(2) of the Constitution.
In the same directive, Joshi was given the additional responsibility of the Education Ministry while continuing his role in overseeing the Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Joshi's appointment comes at a critical time as the Education Ministry is under scrutiny due to allegations of irregularities in competitive exams and calls for increased accountability.
In a social media announcement, Joshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for entrusting him with this significant responsibility, stating, "I accept this role with humility and a strong sense of duty."
Pradhan's resignation is a notable political shift following weeks of student protests and rising pressure over the examination paper leak issues.
This change also follows successful negotiations between the government and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which had led the protests against the paper leaks. The CJP decided to halt its demonstrations after the government agreed to their primary demands, including Pradhan's resignation.
After discussions with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, CJP representatives announced the conclusion of their protests, urging students to return home.
With Joshi now at the helm, focus will likely shift to the government's forthcoming actions regarding examination reforms and initiatives to restore trust in the education and recruitment systems in the country.
