Prajwal Revanna Convicted in Rape Case, Faces Sentencing Soon
Court Convicts Former MP Prajwal Revanna
On Friday, Prajwal Revanna, a former Member of Parliament, was visibly emotional after being found guilty by an MP/MLA Special Court in a case involving the rape of a domestic worker in Karnataka.
The court's ruling pertains to one of four rape allegations against him, with the sentencing scheduled for August 2.
Prosecutor Ashok Nayak informed the media, "The MP/MLA Special Court has convicted Prajwal Revanna. The sentence will be announced tomorrow. We presented 26 witnesses during the trial, which was conducted swiftly."
Nayak described the verdict as a "victory" and praised the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for their thorough work on the case.
"This is a triumph for the victim. I commend the SIT for their diligent investigation... The accused recorded his own sexual acts, and we utilized digital evidence to uncover the truth," he added.
The prosecution was represented by B N Jagadish and Ashok Nayak, while Prajwal Revanna was defended by Arun and Vipul Jain.
The case originated from a complaint by a woman from K R Nagar, Mysore, leading to charges against Revanna at the Cyber Crimes Police Station under various sections of the IPC, including 376(2)(N) and 354(A).
SIT officials gathered 123 pieces of evidence and submitted a comprehensive charge sheet of approximately 2,000 pages to the Special Court of People’s Representatives late last year. Allegations include that the victim was raped at Gannigarh Farm House in Hassan and subsequently at Revanna's home in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, with the incidents recorded on mobile devices.
Prajwal Revanna was apprehended by SIT officials on May 21, 2024, upon his return from abroad, and has remained in judicial custody since.
He faces multiple rape charges, including allegations involving a former Zilla Panchayat member and another woman who sought assistance for her son's school admission.
