Impending Increase in Fuel Costs
There are indications that petrol and diesel prices in the country may soon see an increase. According to sources, the government is considering raising the prices of these fuels. However, no official announcement has been made yet. Recently, the government has significantly hiked the prices of the 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinders, which have surged to ₹3,071.50 in Delhi, marking an increase of ₹993.
Government insiders report that oil companies are facing substantial losses due to the continuous rise in crude oil prices. The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has pushed the price of crude oil above $100 per barrel. Consequently, oil companies are compelled to purchase expensive oil from the international market. Additionally, several countries have already raised their petrol and diesel prices. Given this context, it appears likely that an increase in fuel prices is imminent, although the exact amount remains unclear.
Minister's Remarks on Fuel Pricing
On another note, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that despite significant fluctuations in global crude oil prices, petrol and diesel rates in India have not increased. He emphasized that the country has not allowed panic to dictate policy, ensuring that fuel supply to households remains uninterrupted. Thus far, there has been no hike in petrol and diesel prices.
