Pooja Singh Achieves Historic High Jump
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, extended his congratulations to Pooja Singh for her remarkable achievement at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026. Her impressive jump of 1.93 meters not only earned her a gold medal but also established a new national record, surpassing the previous record held by Sahana Kumari for 14 years.

During the U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong on Friday, Pooja Singh made history by clearing 1.93 meters in the women's high jump, breaking the long-standing national record. This outstanding performance secured her the gold medal.

India's Strong Showing at the Championships
A contingent of 48 athletes from India, comprising 30 men and 18 women, is competing at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, which runs from May 28 to 31. The Athletics Federation of India selected these athletes based on their performances in various domestic competitions, including the Junior Federation Cup held in Tumakuru in April.
The Indian team is also focused on qualifying for the World U20 Athletics Championships 2026, scheduled to take place at Hayward Field from August 5 to 9.
