Pooja Secures Bronze in Women's High Jump at Asian Games 2026

Pooja's Remarkable Performance

Indian athlete Pooja achieved a bronze medal in the women's high jump event during the Asian Games 2026, showcasing an impressive performance in the finals held on Tuesday. She successfully cleared a height of 1.84 meters, securing third place in a tightly contested event.

Pooja made all her jumps up to 1.84 meters on her first attempt, which allowed her to clinch the bronze medal based on countback, surpassing competitors from China and Kazakhstan who also reached the same height. Uzbekistan's Barnokhon Sayfullaeva took home the gold medal after clearing 1.90 meters, while Kazakhstan's Kristina Ovchinnikova earned silver with a jump of 1.87 meters. Pooja's best effort of 1.84 meters placed her in third.

Another Indian competitor, Supriya Basavaraju, participated in the women's high jump final, finishing in 12th place with a top clearance of 1.75 meters.

Athletics Success at Aichi-Nagoya

Pooja's bronze medal contributes to India's successful athletics campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, following the gold medal won by the women's 4x400m relay team and the bronze secured by the men's 4x400m relay team earlier that day.

Women's 4x400m Relay Team Triumphs

The Indian women's relay team, consisting of Kiran, Machettira Poovamma, Prachi, and Vithya Ramraj, finished first with a time of 3:29.69. Bahrain claimed the silver medal with a time of 3:30.21, while China took bronze with 3:31.02.

Vithya Ramraj, who previously won bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, added a gold medal to her achievements in the relay event.

Men's 4x400m Relay Team Earns Bronze

In the men's 4x400m relay, the Indian team comprising Dharmveer Choudhary, Manu Thekkinalil, Jay Kumar, and Vishal Thennarasu clocked a time of 3:01.61, finishing third in a race where the top three teams were separated by less than a second.

The gold medal by the women's 4x400m relay team marked India's second gold of the day.

Historic Gold in Shooting

Earlier, Neeru Dhanda made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual medal in the women's trap event at the Asian Games, securing gold in the final.

Neeru scored 28 out of 30 to take the top position, defeating China's Sun Yunong, who won silver with a score of 26 out of 30, while UAE's Hajar Abdulmalik earned bronze with a score of 21 out of 25.

This victory also marked India's second gold medal in shooting at the 2026 Asian Games.
