On Tuesday, the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships kicked off at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, featuring World Championship bronze medallist Pooja Rani and international boxer Jadumani Singh, who both secured straightforward victories. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain and seasoned boxer Amit Panghal faced tougher challenges to progress in the tournament.


This event marks a historic moment as it is the first instance where both men's and women's National Championships are being conducted simultaneously at a single venue, attracting over 600 competitors from across the nation, each vying in ten different weight categories.


Pooja and Jadumani's Commanding Performances

Pooja Rani, competing in the 75-80kg category, showcased her skills by defeating Anju from Chandigarh with a decisive 5-0 score. Similarly, Jadumani Singh, in the 50-55kg category, demonstrated his dominance against R Parthiban from Tamil Nadu, leading to a referee stoppage in the second round.


Challenging Matches for Lovlina and Amit

In contrast, Lovlina Borgohain faced a tough match against Saweety from Assam, ultimately winning by a narrow 3-2 split decision. In the men's division, Amit Panghal, a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist representing SSCB, also had a close encounter, edging out Priyanshu from Haryana with a 3-2 split decision.
