Yathindra Siddaramaiah Takes Charge as Leader of the House in Karnataka Legislature

Bengaluru, Aug 13: The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislature kicked off on Thursday, with Yathindra Siddaramaiah being appointed as the new Leader of the House in the Legislative Council by Pro-tem Chairman Puttanna.
As the session commenced, Puttanna officially welcomed Yathindra to his new role.
In his address, Yathindra acknowledged that this was his inaugural experience as both a minister and Leader of the House, expressing his awareness of his limited experience in this capacity.
“This is my first time serving as a minister and Leader of the House. Given my limited experience, I kindly ask for guidance from both ruling and opposition members to help me navigate this role,” he stated.
He urged all political members to offer their support and advice throughout the session.
The ruling Congress party members celebrated the announcement by applauding and banging their desks.
Yathindra is the son of Siddaramaiah, a former Chief Minister and member of the Congress Working Committee.
Previously, Yathindra represented the Varuna Assembly Constituency from 2018 to 2023 and is now a member of the Legislative Council.
He played a significant role in the 2023 Assembly elections, contributing to his father Siddaramaiah's victory in the Varuna segment of Mysuru district.
The Legislative Council's proceedings began as part of the Monsoon Session, with several important topics anticipated for discussion.
Before the Assembly session, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara congratulated Pro-tem Speaker T.B. Jayachandra in the Speaker’s chamber at Vidhana Soudha.
Later, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara met with Chief Minister Shivakumar at his office to extend his congratulations.
Before entering the Assembly for his first session as Chief Minister, Shivakumar paid his respects at the entrance and at the Chief Minister’s chair.
During the Assembly proceedings, condolences were expressed for deceased senior legislators.
During the condolence session, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra honored former minister and senior BJP leader Ramachandra Gowda, who began his political journey as a Bengaluru Municipal Corporation councillor during the Jan Sangh era, recognizing his public service and administrative skills.
He noted that Gowda had received accolades for his efficiency from former President V.V. Giri and was celebrated as a child-friendly legislator and an exemplary parliamentarian.
Vijayendra also remembered the contributions of former Kolar MLA K.R. Srinivas, former Raichur MLA Syed Yasin, and others, acknowledging their impact on public life and the state.
He paid tribute to legendary singers S. Janaki and Asha Bhosle, stating that although they have passed, their music will remain timeless.
“Their songs will forever be cherished in our hearts,” he remarked.
Vijayendra also recalled Chennamma, the wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who recently passed away, noting her strength and support for her family.
