Prime Minister Modi Addresses Examination Irregularities Amidst Opposition Criticism

Government's Response to Examination Controversy

New Delhi, July 24: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the Indian National Congress have expressed strong disapproval following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments regarding the examination irregularities. Modi announced that a bill aimed at imposing strict penalties for paper leaks will be presented in Parliament next week.

In a video message released on Thursday, Modi indicated that the proposed legislation would be reviewed by the Union Cabinet and introduced in Parliament at the start of the second week of the Monsoon Session. He emphasized the urgency of passing the bill, highlighting the significant distress caused to countless students and their families due to paper leaks.

Modi stated, "The cabinet will deliberate on the issue of paper leaks today, and after considering suggestions from cabinet members, we will finalize further actions." He assured that the legislation would include robust provisions to tackle such offenses.

Since the emergence of allegations regarding irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination approximately two and a half months ago, the Prime Minister noted that several actions had already been taken. He claimed that those responsible had been apprehended and were currently incarcerated, while ensuring that nearly 22 lakh students could participate in a re-test without losing an academic year.

He also mentioned that the results of the medical entrance re-test were announced on July 19 and instructed officials to set up fast-track courts to expedite cases related to examination malpractice.

In response to Modi's announcement, CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka suggested that the most effective action the government could take would be to dismiss Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Ranka stated, "Modi ji, remove Dharmendra Pradhan tomorrow. That's the strictest action you can take."

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticized the proposed legislation, sharing an image on social media that depicted a man locking a gate without a boundary wall, implying that the bill would fail to address the fundamental issues behind examination irregularities.

The Congress party accused the Prime Minister of a delayed response to the controversy and questioned the government's commitment to accountability. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarked that Modi had finally broken his two-month silence regarding paper leaks through a video message but neglected to address the concerns of students.

Ramesh stated, "The desperate and hassled-looking Prime Minister finally broke his two-month-long silence late last night via a video message to speak on paper leaks." He alleged that the government had previously denied any leaks in the NEET-UG 2026 examination and that both the Education Ministry and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had avoided acknowledging the issue.

He insisted that any meaningful resolution must start with "sack Mantri Pradhan; punish those who beat them; apologise," referring to the protests by students over the alleged examination irregularities. Ramesh also pointed out that the Prime Minister's statement did not address the student protests or the police actions against demonstrators, which he interpreted as a sign of the government's reluctance to accept accountability.
