Kolkata, Apr 18: During a rally in Kalimpong, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, of misappropriating state resources to benefit 'Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators'. He asserted that her removal is essential to prevent further loss of Bengal.
Sarma claimed that the BJP administrations in Assam and Tripura have successfully blocked the influx of illegal immigrants, contrasting this with the ongoing situation in West Bengal.
He alleged, “Mamata Banerjee has allocated the entire treasury of Bengal to Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators, trading land for votes.”
Criticizing Banerjee's governance, Sarma stated, “We must oust her as Chief Minister, or one day, Bangladeshi Muslims will take control of the state.”
He further noted the lack of development in north Bengal under her rule and called for a governmental shift.
Sarma promised that if the BJP gains power, they would expel all illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the region.
Additionally, he mentioned that the BJP would pursue a constitutional resolution for the Gorkhaland issue and ensure justice for the Gorkhas if elected.
In response, Mamata Banerjee remarked that the BJP's decline has commenced, particularly after the Centre's failure to pass a constitutional amendment for 33% reservation for women in legislatures starting in 2029.
Speaking at a rally in Uluberia, Banerjee claimed that the BJP has been 'defeated' and is only in power due to its alliances.
“The BJP’s downfall has begun. We have defeated them. They are humiliated and lack a majority,” she stated.
Banerjee criticized the BJP's push for delimitation, accusing them of attempting to 'divide' the nation.
“They sought delimitation to fragment the country. We don’t need a Bill to ensure women’s representation,” she added.
She cautioned those aligned with the BJP that their time in power at the Centre is limited.
