Dhubri, May 23: Ali Akbar Miah, a former MLA from West Bilasipara, has been taken into custody by law enforcement following his alleged inflammatory comments regarding animal sacrifice during Eid-ul-Zuha, as well as remarks aimed at Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

As per police reports, Miah reportedly made inappropriate statements concerning the practice of animal sacrifice during the festival and threatened that if authorities intervened to prevent cattle sacrifice, 'the police would also be sacrificed'.

Additionally, he faces accusations of using derogatory language towards the Chief Minister.

Law enforcement has filed a case against Miah at the Bilasipara Police Station, recorded under Case No. 163/2026, citing various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 148, 152, 221, 351(3), 353(1)(B), 353(1)(C), and 61(2).

Following the case registration, a police team from the Bilasipara subdivision conducted a search at Miah's home. After approximately two hours, he was apprehended.

Initially interrogated locally, he was later transferred to Dhubri Sadar Police Station for further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

This incident arises amidst calls for communal harmony from various Muslim organizations in Dhubri district in anticipation of Bakrid.

Local groups, including Markaz Committees, Eidgah Committees, and several mosque committees, have publicly declared their intention to abstain from cow and buffalo sacrifices during this year's festivities.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional legal measures will be determined based on the inquiry's outcomes.
