Bengaluru, May 22: Basavaraj S. Bommai, a BJP MP and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, has expressed strong disapproval of Rahul Gandhi's recent comments directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the Congress leader of disrespecting the nation.
In his statement to the media, Bommai highlighted that Gandhi referred to Modi and Shah as 'traitors', asserting that such language is a direct affront to the country.
Bommai emphasized that PM Modi has been elected three times by the populace in a democratic framework, and noted that his leadership has garnered admiration from global leaders. He remarked that Indians are fortunate to have Modi at the helm, a sentiment echoed by many international figures.
Addressing national security, Bommai pointed out that the Modi administration's revocation of Article 370, which previously conferred special status on Jammu and Kashmir, has been pivotal in combating terrorism. He also mentioned 'Operation Sindoor', which he claimed was a decisive action against Pakistan for its alleged support of terrorism, and stated that the government has effectively tackled Naxalism.
Further criticizing Rahul Gandhi, Bommai stated that as the Leader of Opposition, Gandhi occupies a significant constitutional role and should refrain from making disparaging remarks about the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He labeled Gandhi's statements as disrespectful to the dignity of constitutional offices.
Bommai also took aim at the Congress party, asserting that it has diminished in relevance in four out of five states during recent elections. He warned that such comments from Gandhi would only serve to undermine the party's future.
He concluded by demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that he should seek forgiveness from the citizens for his statements, or else face repercussions from the public.
