Political Turmoil Surrounds Former Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar
Political Controversy Erupts
Laljit Singh Bhullar, the former transport minister of Punjab, finds himself at the center of a significant political scandal. Following the alleged suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the State Warehousing Corporation stationed in Amritsar, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has demanded Bhullar's resignation.
Allegations of Mental Harassment
Before his death, Randhawa recorded a video in which he accused Minister Bhullar of subjecting him to mental harassment, ultimately leading him to take his own life. The release of this video has prompted the opposition to target the government, resulting in a call for an impartial investigation. In response to a complaint filed by Randhawa's wife, police have registered a case against Bhullar, his father, and his personal assistant.
Bhullar's Controversial Journey
Laljit Singh Bhullar, who represents the Patti constituency in Tarn Taran, has had a tumultuous political career. He emerged as a prominent face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after defeating seasoned politicians in the 2022 elections, but controversies soon followed him.
After becoming a cabinet minister, a video surfaced showing him violating traffic rules by leaning out of a moving car's sunroof, leading the opposition to label him as the 'flying minister.'
Additionally, a video of him present with Deep Sidhu during the January 26, 2021, unrest at the Red Fort sparked significant backlash, with accusations from the BJP and Congress of his involvement in 'anti-national' activities.
From Grassroots Activist to Powerful Minister
Hailing from a modest agricultural family, Laljit Singh Bhullar was a grassroots worker for the Aam Aadmi Party. He achieved a remarkable victory in the 2022 elections, defeating prominent figures like four-time Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon and Congress's Harminder Singh Gill.
This achievement led to his appointment to the crucial transport department. Although he defended his presence at the Red Fort by stating he was there in support of farmers, the recent suicide case has cast serious doubts on his political future.
