Political Turmoil in TMC: Nearly 20 MPs Shift Allegiance to NDA
TMC Faces Internal Crisis as MPs Support NDA
Kolkata: The political landscape within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has become increasingly unstable as senior MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar revealed that approximately 20 members of the party have opted to support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This decision has been formally communicated to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Currently, the TMC holds 28 seats in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha.
In a statement to the media, Ghosh Dastidar confirmed that a letter expressing their intent to back the NDA had been sent to the Speaker.
She stated, "Around 20 TMC MPs, myself included, have informed Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla of our choice to support the NDA."
Despite the shift, Ghosh Dastidar maintains her position as the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha, asserting that this decision followed discussions with her colleagues.
This announcement comes at a time when the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC is grappling with significant internal strife, marked by public dissent and the resignation of several senior figures.
Ghosh Dastidar emphasized that their decision to align with the NDA is a reflection of the people's will, stating, "We acknowledge the public's verdict and believe our political future should align with the NDA."
As of now, the TMC leadership has not issued a response to these developments.
