Official sources from Lok Bhavan clarified to a news outlet that Vijay claimed to have the backing of 117 legislators, just one short of the majority threshold of 118 in the 234-member assembly.

Breakdown of Alleged Support

The details of the claimed support are as follows: TVK has 107 legislators (having won a total of 108 seats, but one seat is considered vacant due to Vijay's potential resignation). The Congress party contributes 5 legislators, while the Left parties add 4, and AMMK provides 1, totaling 117.

Vijay requested permission to take the oath of office at 11 AM on Saturday, but the Governor denied the request due to the lack of a clear majority. Dayakaran informed the Governor that the signature of the sole AMMK legislator supporting Vijay was forged.

AMMK's Response and Allegations

Meanwhile, TVK attempted to reach out to AMMK legislator Kamaraj, but he did not respond. Within an hour, Kamaraj appeared in Chennai, and together with Dayakaran, they met the Governor, accusing TVK of engaging in horse-trading. Additionally, sources from Lok Bhavan indicated that the VCK, which was part of the DMK coalition, had not submitted any letter of support to the Governor. Despite rumors that VCK had sent its support via email, Lok Bhavan sources confirmed that the Governor had not received such communication.
