Political Turmoil in Punjab: AAP's Arvind Kejriwal Hints at Early Elections
Kejriwal's Bold Prediction for Punjab Elections
The political landscape in Punjab is witnessing significant activity once again. Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has asserted that the state assembly elections could take place earlier than scheduled, potentially in November 2026 instead of February 2027. He made this announcement during a large roadshow in Bathinda.
During the event, Kejriwal also introduced Bhagwant Mann as the party's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need to re-elect him. He addressed the crowd alongside Mann, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, and state president Aman Arora, expressing gratitude for the party's impressive performance in the recent municipal elections.
Recent Municipal Election Success
On Thursday, AAP successfully elected mayors in the municipalities of Barnala, Moga, Batala, and Bathinda. Kejriwal remarked, "I have been informed that elections will occur in November 2026 instead of February 2027. We have only four months left, and we must start working immediately to ensure Bhagwant Mann is re-elected as chief minister."
He also thanked the public for the party's remarkable victory in the municipal elections, where AAP secured 958 out of 1,977 ward seats across eight municipal corporations, 75 municipal councils, and 19 town councils.
Kejriwal claimed, "AAP has been governing Punjab for four years, and the people are satisfied with our administration."
Bhagwant Mann's Response to Opposition
In his address, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that the recent local body elections saw a coalition of BJP, Akali Dal, and Congress working together against AAP. He noted that these parties pooled their resources and coordinated strategies to campaign against the AAP government.
Mann stated, "These parties were alarmed by our honest governance, realizing that if AAP's public service journey continued, their corrupt practices would be permanently shut down. However, the politically aware and visionary people of Punjab recognized the reality of this alliance and delivered a clear mandate in favor of AAP."
He emphasized the importance of agriculture to Punjab's economy, assuring farmers that the state government would continue to provide all necessary resources to strengthen farming and increase agricultural production.
