Political Turmoil Erupts Over Controversial Remarks by RSS Leader in the US
Political Fallout from RSS Leader's Statement
A recent controversial statement made by senior leader Ram Madhav of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during an event in the United States has ignited significant political unrest in India. The Congress party has swiftly seized upon this issue, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of compromising India's sovereignty to the United States. Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal has asserted that the Prime Minister has lost his right to remain in office.
Venugopal shared a post on the social media platform 'X', referencing Madhav's comments at a Hudson Institute event. Madhav stated, "India agreed to halt oil purchases from Iran, and despite criticism from the opposition, we consented to stop buying oil from Russia. India has also accepted a 50% tariff without much discussion, so where is the lack of effort in collaborating with the United States?" Following backlash, Madhav later apologized, admitting that he had presented incorrect information.
Venugopal claimed that Madhav's remarks clearly indicate that Prime Minister Modi is acting under the influence of Washington. He remarked, "There was a time when the US Seventh Fleet was in the Bay of Bengal, and India did not back down. Today, we have a compromising Prime Minister who has surrendered India's sovereignty to the US."
According to Venugopal, this sentiment has been echoed by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and the entire opposition in the Lok Sabha. He asserted that India has lost its independent voice on the global stage, stating, "This act of surrender makes it evident that Narendra Modi has forfeited his right to continue as Prime Minister."
