Intensifying Political Debate Over NEET Paper Leak

The ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar regarding the NEET paper leak and the call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have escalated political tensions. After 26 days, Sonam Wangchuk has ended his indefinite hunger strike, but opposition parties are raising questions about the situation. Congress MP Imran Masood remarked that Wangchuk resembles a second version of Anna Hazare, who remained silent for 12 years, suggesting that Wangchuk might follow suit. He questioned the presence of students during the recent negotiations between the AAP government and the authorities, implying that the discussions were more about personal agreements than student concerns.

Responses from Political Figures

In response, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala criticized Masood's comments about Wangchuk and the alleged personal deal with the government. Poonawala accused Congress of crossing all limits in their disrespect towards Wangchuk, stating that Rahul Gandhi had never engaged with Wangchuk and was absent during the protests. He noted that while the government has engaged with the protesters and addressed their demands, Gandhi seems to be avoiding the discussion and allowing derogatory remarks against Wangchuk from his MPs. Poonawala emphasized that the Prime Minister is committed to student welfare, actively advocating for fast-track courts, anti-cheating laws, and proper conduct of the NEET exam.

Calls for Minister's Resignation

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of a bill to impose strict penalties against exam irregularities, the Cockroach Public Party (CoJP) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have targeted Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding his removal. CoJP stated that the most stringent action the government could take against exam irregularities would be to dismiss Pradhan from his position. National spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka responded to Modi's statement by urging the Prime Minister to remove Pradhan, calling it the strongest action he could take. CoJP founder Abhijit Deepke also criticized the announcement, sharing an image on social media depicting a person closing an entrance without walls.
