Political Showdown During Buddha Purnima

In Uttar Pradesh, political dynamics have taken a sharp turn, with festivals and religious occasions now serving as platforms for power displays and fierce exchanges. The recent events that began at the Mahaparinirvana Temple in Kushinagar during Buddha Purnima have escalated into a significant political uproar. The controversy stems from a shared video featuring the state's Deputy Chief Ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, which has drawn sharp criticism from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav's Strong Critique

Following the release of the video showcasing unity between the two Deputy CMs, Akhilesh Yadav launched a direct attack. He labeled the BJP leaders as 'unrighteous' and accused them of choosing a path of falsehood. Yadav emphasized that religious sites should maintain their sanctity, which he believes is being undermined by the negative politics of BJP leaders. He provocatively questioned the morality of praising God while turning one's back on Him. Furthermore, he mocked the internal divisions within the BJP, suggesting that while the two leaders appear united, the real power dynamics remain hidden.

Keshav Maurya's Response

In response, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya did not hold back. He addressed Akhilesh directly, suggesting that it is natural to feel anxious when witnessing a 'hit and fit' duo. Maurya claimed to represent the lineage of the great emperor Chandragupta Maurya, linking his heritage to the teachings of peace and justice from Lord Buddha. He countered Akhilesh's remarks by accusing the Samajwadi Party of enabling oppression against various communities, including Mauryas, Kushwahas, Shakyas, and Sainis. Maurya asserted that the public would hold the perpetrators accountable by supporting the BJP in future elections, aiming for a developed India by 2047.

Escalating Political Climate

This controversy extends beyond mere social media exchanges. It represents a strategic battle for securing votes from backward classes ahead of upcoming elections, while also showcasing party unity. As the opposition questions the BJP's cohesion, the government is demonstrating its 'double-engine' strength.
