Political Posters Spark Controversy in Uttar Pradesh

As the 2027 assembly elections approach, posters targeting Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav have appeared in various locations in Lucknow and Amethi, inspired by the Bollywood film 'Dhurandhar.' These posters, displayed outside the Amethi railway station and at several intersections, pose the question, "What do you want? Akhilesh's Lyari Raj?" The term 'Lyari' refers to a neighborhood in Karachi, Pakistan, known for its history of gang violence, which is also referenced in the film. This messaging seems aimed at drawing a parallel between the area's reputation and the tenure of the Samajwadi Party leader.

This has ignited a political controversy. The recently released film 'Dhurandhar' also mentions this area. One side of the hoarding references alleged violence and riots during Akhilesh Yadav's time as Chief Minister, while the other highlights actions taken against mafia and criminals under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's administration. The name of the organization 'Youth Against Mafia' is prominently featured on the hoarding, along with the names and photos of its executive president, general secretary, and the Pratapgarh in-charge. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has condemned the display of such posters.

Rajesh Mishra, a spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party, stated that this reflects the desperation and frustration of the BJP government. He remarked that a lamp shows various forms before it extinguishes, suggesting that the BJP's time is running out. He believes the party has realized that their return is unlikely, leading them to resort to such tactics. The public is aware of the situation. On the other hand, Ravi Singh, the officer in charge of the Amethi police station, confirmed that they have received information about these posters. He mentioned that a police team has been dispatched to investigate the matter.
