According to police reports, Markandeyan was addressing a public gathering held to commemorate the birthday of the late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, a former chief minister. During his speech, he allegedly made offensive comments regarding Chief Minister Vijay. Members of the Tamilga Vetri Kadhagam (TVK), the chief minister's party, expressed strong objections and promptly filed a complaint with the police, leading to the legislator's swift detention.

Recent Arrest of Another DMK Legislator

Police apprehended her while she was traveling to Authoor, approximately 23 kilometers from Thoothukudi, and took her into custody.

Radhakrishnan, who represents the Tiruchendur assembly constituency, had made disparaging comments about the chief minister on June 20, prompting TVK to file a police complaint.
Legal Charges Filed Against the Legislators
Authorities have reported that charges have been filed against the legislator under Section 352 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for intentionally insulting with the intent to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 353(2) for making statements that could incite public unrest.
