Political Tensions Rise in Maharashtra as Uddhav Thackeray and Devendra Fadnavis Clash

A new wave of political rhetoric has emerged between Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra. This confrontation follows the recent defection of six MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) to the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Speaking at a rally in Hingoli, Thackeray asserted that the BJP's well-known 'Operation Tiger' was, in fact, 'Operation Devendra.' He claimed it was not aimed at the opposition but rather a strategy to prevent Fadnavis from emerging as a potential candidate for Prime Minister in the future. He questioned why the MPs did not join the BJP directly instead of switching parties without an election, suggesting that this was indeed 'Operation Devendra.' Thackeray speculated that Amit Shah orchestrated this to ensure Fadnavis remains at a certain level and does not enter the race for Prime Minister. He added that if needed, these rebel leaders might support Amit Shah for the Prime Ministerial position.

After reviewing infrastructure projects in Palghar, Fadnavis dismissed Thackeray's claims, emphasizing that his focus is solely on development. The Chief Minister stated, "I am just a person. If I don't have wings, who can clip them? I have the blessings of 14 crore people of Maharashtra and my senior leaders, so there is nothing to worry about." His remarks came as the BJP attempted to quell speculation regarding party defectors and their ties with Thackeray.

This political drama unfolded shortly after Fadnavis and Thackeray unexpectedly traveled together on a commercial flight from Mumbai to Nagpur, sparking intense political speculation amidst the Shiv Sena rebellion. Accompanying them were Aaditya Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut. Downplaying the significance of the encounter, Fadnavis humorously remarked that the real headline was not their shared flight. He told TV9 Marathi that the fact that the three of them were on the same flight was the biggest news. The BJP also stressed that this meeting held no political significance, labeling it merely a coincidence and asserting that being political rivals does not equate to personal enmity.

This situation arises at a politically sensitive time for Thackeray, as his faction recently faced a significant setback when six of their nine Lok Sabha MPs joined Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, strengthening the ruling Mahayuti coalition.
