Political Tensions Rise in Bihar as RJD Family Withdraws Security Personnel
Political Clash Erupts in Bihar
A new political conflict has emerged in Bihar following the decision by the family of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who leads the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), to send all security personnel stationed at their Patna residence back home. This action comes just days after the Bihar government significantly reduced security for several members of the Yadav family. Described as a politically motivated response by the RJD, this move has heightened tensions between the ruling NDA government and the opposition coalition led by the RJD.
Sources indicate that Lalu Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi instructed all security staff at their residence on Circular Road in Patna to leave. The security teams, including Bihar police officers assigned to protect the RJD leader and his family, were sent away as a symbolic protest against the government's decision. The Bihar government claims that these changes were part of a routine review based on assessments of potential threats.
However, RJD leaders argue that this action was aimed at politically targeting the Yadav family and undermining the reputation of key opposition figures in the state. Tejashwi Yadav, a leader of the opposition, also returned his Y-plus security detail as a form of protest, although officials clarified that there had been no changes to his security arrangements. RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav staged a protest outside the Circular Road residence on Saturday.
A former legislator sitting outside the bungalow expressed that the Yadav family is frustrated with the repeated humiliations from the government, emphasizing that RJD workers will now take responsibility for their leaders' security. Shakti Yadav stated, "The government wants to eliminate our leaders, but we will strive to ensure their safety ourselves." He also linked this issue to the recent allocation of the bungalow on Circular Road to BJP minister Nand Kishore Yadav, which Rabri Devi had vehemently opposed.
