Political Tensions Rise at Delhi University Following Rahul Gandhi's Unannounced Visit

Rahul Gandhi's Surprise Visit Sparks Controversy

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader and opposition figure, unexpectedly arrived at the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) office, igniting protests and political unrest within the campus. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the RSS, criticized the event as a theatrical stunt and accused Gandhi of undermining elected student representatives.

According to Rajni Abbi, the proctor of Delhi University, Gandhi visited the DUSU office without prior notification to the university administration and remained there for approximately one hour.

Abbi stated that during Gandhi's visit, security personnel cordoned off the area. This marks the second time Gandhi has made such an unannounced appearance. She noted that members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), who were reportedly accompanying Gandhi, prevented DUSU secretary Mitravinda Karnawal from entering her office. The proctor warned of strict action against those responsible.

Karnawal echoed these concerns, stating, "I was barred from entering my office due to VVIP protocol." She accused Gandhi of sidelining student representatives and using the campus for political theatrics. Karnawal described the visit as a dramatic photo opportunity, likening Gandhi's behavior to that of "an uninvited actor disrupting a student play." The ABVP, which holds several positions within the DUSU, also condemned Gandhi's visit, labeling it an attempt to hijack student platforms for political gain.
