Political Tensions Rise After US Attack on Indian Crew in Oman
Political Fallout from US Military Action
The recent attack by the US military on a commercial vessel near the coast of Oman has sparked significant political controversy in India, resulting in the tragic deaths of three Indian sailors. Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a Member of Parliament, has sharply criticized the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over this incident. Owaisi accused the Prime Minister of having time to attend various ceremonies but lacking the urgency to condemn the deaths of Indian nationals caused by the US attack. He emphasized that the central government has repeatedly failed to protect the lives of Indian citizens and sailors operating in international waters.
In a post on the social media platform X, Owaisi stated, "It is the government's primary duty to save the lives of Indians. It is both tragic and distressing that the Prime Minister can find time for ceremonies but not to denounce the US military's actions that have cost Indian lives." He further questioned whether there has ever been a weaker government in India's history.
Owaisi also highlighted that Russia continues to recruit Indians as soldiers, many of whom are being killed, while the Indian government appears powerless. He remarked, "The government does not allow the mention of China in films or the depiction of the Galwan conflict, yet we face such incidents involving Indian sailors in international waters. As a nation, we deserve better. Jai Hind."
On Thursday, India reported that the US military had attacked three commercial vessels with Indian crews near the coast of Oman over the past four days, resulting in the deaths of three Indian citizens. The Indian government has stated that it has raised this issue firmly with the United States.
