Political Tensions Escalate in Durgapur Amid Arrest of TMC Leader

Political tensions have surged in Durgapur, West Bengal. Sukumar Dutta, a leader from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was reportedly pelted with eggs while being escorted to court amidst allegations of corruption and extortion. The New Township police station in Durgapur had taken Dutta into custody. As he was being transported to the Durgapur sub-divisional court, demonstrators gathered outside the police station, chanting slogans against him. According to reports, BJP workers and local residents protested during his transit, leading to the egg-throwing incident. This altercation temporarily heightened tensions in the area, prompting police to enhance security measures and maintain order.

In response to the incident, BJP leader Swadhin Rai asserted that the egg-throwing was not orchestrated by the BJP but was a manifestation of public anger towards the TMC leader. Rai accused Dutta of long-standing allegations related to land grabbing, extortion, and intimidation of local residents. However, these claims have not been independently verified. The BJP leader further stated that the local populace has endured years of oppression and exploitation, leading to significant resentment against Dutta. He called for stringent action against the arrested TMC leader and demanded an investigation into the involvement of other local leaders accused of participating in these alleged activities. This arrest and the subsequent protests have intensified the political clash between the TMC and BJP in the region, with the opposition demanding a thorough investigation into the allegations against Dutta.
