Political Leaders React to Youth's Murder in Meerut

The national leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, expressed their outrage on Sunday regarding the murder of a young man in the Sardhana area of Meerut. This incident occurred approximately a week ago, and authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the case.

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, took to 'X' to voice his concerns, stating that the heinous act committed against a youth from the Kashyap community in Jwalagadh, Sardhana, demands a collective outcry from the entire P.D.A. (Backward, Dalit, and Minority) community.

Mayawati also condemned the murder of the Kashyap community youth, who falls under the Other Backward Classes (OBC), on 'X'. She emphasized the necessity for such antisocial and criminal elements to fear the law.

In response to the posts by Yadav and Mayawati, the Meerut police clarified that this incident is not recent and that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed, leading to the resolution of the case within 24 hours. They noted that the accused is a minor, who has been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a juvenile home.

The police reported that the incident took place on Monday along the Akhhepura-Rardhana road. The victim has been identified as Rohit, also known as Sonu, aged 28, from Mohalla Kila in Muzaffarnagar city. Initial investigations revealed that a dispute over loud music in a tempo led to the murder by a 16-year-old tempo driver.

According to Ashutosh Kumar, the Circle Officer of Sardhana, the accused befriended Rohit, offered him alcohol, consumed an 'energy drink' himself, and subsequently struck Rohit on the head with a brick, resulting in his death.

To conceal his identity, the accused dragged the body approximately 15 meters to a spot near a school wall and set it on fire using clothes, dry leaves, and oil. The incident came to light when the school caretaker noticed the fire on Monday night and alerted the police. The next day, the body was identified as Rohit.

Family members revealed that Rohit worked as a confectioner in Mumbai and had come to the village to look for a bride. The police identified the suspect based on the barcode on a pouch of alcohol and CCTV footage from the liquor store, leading to the resolution of the murder case.
