Escalating Controversy Surrounding Ashok Kharat

The situation involving self-proclaimed spiritual leader Ashok Kharat in Maharashtra is intensifying. With allegations of rape, black magic, fraud, and financial irregularities surfacing, the case has now taken on a political dimension. While a special investigation team delves deeply into the matter, concerns are also being raised about the leaking of sensitive information.

Concerns Raised by State Minister

Uday Samant, the state's industry minister, has expressed serious concerns regarding the allegations of leaked phone calls related to this case. He stated that the emergence of sensitive information linked to such a case is alarming and warrants thorough investigation. Samant emphasized that the leak itself constitutes a significant crime, and the government will take stringent action in this regard.

Allegations of Political Connections

The controversy began when social activist Anjali Damania claimed that several prominent leaders were in contact with Ashok Kharat. She alleged that there were seventeen conversations between Kharat and Shiv Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with multiple contacts with other leaders. Damania stated that this call log was obtained from an anonymous source.

Denial of Political Conspiracy

Uday Samant dismissed these allegations as a political conspiracy, asserting that some individuals are deliberately attempting to tarnish the image of leaders. He pointed out that mere phone calls do not prove any illicit relationship.

Legal Proceedings Against Kharat

Meanwhile, a court in Nashik has remanded Ashok Kharat to police custody until April 8, 2026, in connection with another rape case. The special investigation team informed the court that the accused is not cooperating with the investigation. According to police, Kharat is accused of long-term sexual exploitation of a woman, including administering abortion pills and instilling fear in her.

Details of Exploitation Revealed

The prosecution stated in court that the victim was exploited multiple times between 2020 and 2026. The accused allegedly kept the victim's and her family's documents and controlled her by administering drugs. Investigators noted that Kharat employed similar methods with several women.

Defense Challenges Allegations

The defense countered these allegations, arguing that the aspect of consent should also be considered. They claimed that the police have resorted to the black magic law, as proving the charges without it would be challenging. However, after hearing both sides, the court approved the police custody request.

Financial Irregularities Uncovered

In a shocking revelation, police reported that Ashok Kharat had opened over 130 accounts under different names in two cooperative institutions in Maharashtra. Transactions amounting to approximately ₹63 crores were conducted through these accounts, allegedly from individuals seeking astrological consultations.

Political Turmoil Intensifies

It was also discovered that one of these accounts was opened in the name of a woman who is reportedly the sister of a former women's commission chairperson. This revelation has heightened political tensions.

Fraud Allegations in Shirdi

In addition, Kharat and his wife are accused of attempting to seize land in a fraud case registered in Shirdi. Police have arrested two intermediaries in this case, while efforts to locate his wife are ongoing. A lookout notice has been issued to prevent her from leaving the country.

Multiple Cases Filed Against Kharat

Currently, Ashok Kharat faces ten registered cases, eight of which pertain to the exploitation of women, and two involve fraud. The Enforcement Directorate may also investigate the money laundering angle in this case.

Broader Implications of the Case

Overall, this case extends beyond the actions of a single individual, intertwining political connections, administrative negligence, and financial scandals. The findings of the ongoing investigation will play a crucial role in uncovering the truth behind this complex situation.
