Following the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, protests across the nation regarding the paper leak issue may have subsided, but the political and legal ramifications are still unfolding. In Siwan district, a member of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been suspended amid allegations of firing an AK-47 during student protests. This incident resulted in injuries to three students, igniting significant public outrage.

The suspended officer has been identified as Abhishek Patel, a member of the SIT. Reports indicate that during the unrest in Siwan, Patel allegedly fired directly at protesters with an AK-47. The three injured students are currently receiving treatment at Medanta Hospital in Patna. This marks the first significant disciplinary action taken in connection with the shooting incident.

Investigation and Arrests

The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the violence, filing three FIRs related to the clashes. Officials revealed that approximately 100 individuals are named in the FIRs, with an additional 200 unidentified persons also facing charges. Before being sent to jail, around 25 suspects underwent medical examinations at Siwan Sadar Hospital. Efforts to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the violence are ongoing.

Political Tensions Rise

The violence in Siwan has sparked a new political confrontation in Bihar. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has issued an ultimatum to the government led by Samrat Chaudhary. He demands the release of arrested students and his brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, along with the withdrawal of charges against them. Speaking on Sunday, Tejashwi emphasized that they are not making requests but issuing warnings. He highlighted the detention of their legislators and activists, stating that hundreds of students across Bihar have faced action and FIRs have been filed against them. Many students remain incarcerated. This serves as a warning to Samrat Chaudhary: if the cases are not withdrawn and the students are not released by tomorrow evening, a statewide movement will commence across Bihar.
