Political Dynamics Heat Up in Digboi Ahead of Assam Elections
Political Activity Intensifies in Digboi
Digboi, March 8: As the Assam Legislative Assembly elections draw near, political engagement is on the rise in the Digboi Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) located in Tinsukia district. However, the Opposition remains in a state of uncertainty.
The Raijor Dal has put forward Lakshya Jyoti Gogoi as its candidate for the Digboi seat. Gogoi asserts that his nomination was established through a 'mutual understanding' with the Indian National Congress (INC) and that he will run with their backing to promote unity among the Opposition.
Contrarily, local leaders from the Congress have dismissed this assertion, claiming that no such agreement has been made with the Raijor Dal. They emphasize that the party plans to nominate its own candidate for Digboi.
This situation has sparked speculation about the nature of the electoral contest, with scenarios ranging from a potential Opposition alliance to a multi-cornered battle against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Further complicating matters, Digboi was omitted from the Congress's initial candidate list, leaving many hopefuls awaiting direction from party leaders.
Political analysts believe that the delay in candidate announcements has diminished the Congress's visibility in the area, as the party has yet to articulate a definitive electoral strategy.
Meanwhile, sources within the BJP suggest that the party will reveal its candidate for Digboi following a roadshow named 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra,' led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along the Digboi-Margherita-Makum-Tinsukia route on March 8.
Party officials are expected to gauge public sentiment during the roadshow, particularly the level of supporter turnout along the route, before finalizing their nominee for the Digboi constituency.
With the Raijor Dal already in the race and the Congress yet to disclose its plans, the Opposition landscape in Digboi remains ambiguous. The BJP is closely monitoring the situation before announcing its candidate. As political strategies unfold, the coming days will be crucial in shaping the electoral contest for Digboi.
