In the capital city of Delhi, political activities are intensifying as the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to commence on Monday, July 20. Both the ruling NDA and the opposition are finalizing their strategies for this session. The opposition is gearing up to confront the government on pressing issues such as unemployment, soaring inflation, and the NEET paper leak, while the central government is focused on ensuring the smooth passage of key legislative measures.
Five New Bills Expected to be Introduced
According to reports, the government is considering the introduction of five new bills in the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon Session. These include the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, intended to replace an ordinance; the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, also to replace an ordinance; the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026; the Prevention of Insult to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026; and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026. These bills are anticipated to be central to the government's legislative agenda during the session.
Pending Bills on the Government's Agenda
In addition to the new legislation, the central government may also address two bills that are currently pending in Parliament: the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, 2026, and the National Education Institution Bill, 2025, which was presented on December 15, 2025, and subsequently referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for further examination.
Delimitation and 'One Nation, One Election' Remain Hot Topics
Although the official legislative list does not include the delimitation bill or the 'One Nation, One Election' bill, these proposals have become significant topics of political discussion ahead of the session. Opposition parties believe that the central government is rapidly moving towards introducing these laws. The Congress party has already made it clear that it will oppose any bill related to the delimitation process if it is brought to Parliament.
Strategic Meetings of Government and Opposition
As part of the government's preparations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair a crucial meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) at his residence on Friday at 11 AM. This meeting is expected to focus on coordination and legislative strategy for the Monsoon Session. Meanwhile, the Congress and other opposition parties have also ramped up their preparations, holding several internal meetings, with a joint meeting of opposition parties scheduled for July 19, just a day before Parliament reconvenes.
Expectations from the Monsoon Session
The upcoming session is likely to witness intense debates between the ruling party and the opposition. While the government will strive to advance its legislative agenda, the opposition may raise issues related to inflation, unemployment, examination irregularities, and other public concerns, potentially heating up the political atmosphere in Parliament.
