His comments, intended as humor, have been met with fierce backlash from opposition parties, particularly the BJP and RSS, who accuse him of mocking Hindu beliefs. Calls for an apology have emerged from various political factions, including the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Political Controversy Erupts Over Telangana CM's Remarks on Hindu Deities

Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage

The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, has ignited significant political controversy at both state and national levels during a Congress executive meeting. He remarked that Hinduism features 'a deity for every occasion,' humorously referencing various gods. Following the release of the meeting's video, opposition parties swiftly criticized him, claiming that his comments have offended Hindu sentiments.

Details of the Remarks

Revanth Reddy stated, 'How many gods are there in Hinduism? Three crore? Why? For the unmarried, there is Lord Hanuman. For those who have been married twice, there is another deity. For drinkers, there is yet another god. Yellamma, Pochamma, Maisamma… for those who ask for chicken, there is one god, and for those who eat dal and rice, there is another. There are deities for every type.' He later clarified that these comments were made in a 'light-hearted manner.'

Political Backlash

The BJP and RSS have condemned his remarks as mockery of Hindu faith. Central Minister and former Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticized the statement on social media, asserting that the Congress party harbors deep-seated 'hatred' towards Hindus. He accused Congress of being a party that 'bows to AIMIM' and noted that Revanth Reddy has previously labeled Congress as a 'Muslim party,' revealing his mindset.

Calls for Apology

BJP leaders have warned that a Congress victory could jeopardize Hindu respect, urging the community to 'unite and show their strength.' BJP MP Sambit Patra also harshly criticized Reddy's comments, stating they expose the 'poison' against Hindus within Congress. He remarked that the language of Congress and some radical religious leaders now sounds alarmingly similar.

Demand for Accountability

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has also demanded that Revanth Reddy retract his statement and apologize, with several BRS leaders accusing him of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Meanwhile, the BJP has announced protests in the state, with party president G. Ramchandra Rao calling for an unconditional apology from the Chief Minister.

The Importance of Sensitivity in Leadership

In sensitive social and religious contexts, a Chief Minister should not speak like an ordinary citizen. Every word from political leadership requires context, responsibility, and caution, especially in a culturally diverse nation like India, where matters of faith are extremely sensitive. The line between humor and mockery is very thin in such discussions.

The Complexity of Hinduism

Hinduism's polytheism, folk deities, and various cultural traditions symbolize its vastness and diversity. Presenting these aspects in a joking manner is not only inappropriate but also irresponsible, particularly when political divisions are already deepening. A Chief Minister must recognize that their words carry weight beyond mere humor; they shape social narratives.

Political Polarization and Religious Identity

It is noteworthy that religious identity has already become a tool for political polarization in India. In such an environment, any comment, even if intended as a joke, can foster unnecessary tension and misinterpretation. A democratic or elected leader is expected to be both sensitive and respectful regarding matters of faith. Mocking religious diversity is neither political savvy nor social maturity.
