Allegations Against Rahul Gandhi

On Wednesday, a political uproar ensued after Sambit Patra, a leader and national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), made serious allegations regarding the foreign travel expenses of Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. During a press conference in Delhi, Patra asserted that Gandhi has undertaken 54 foreign trips over the past 22 years, incurring expenses of nearly ₹60 crores, which he claims is five times more than Gandhi's earnings during the same period.

Questions Raised About Travel Expenses

Patra pointed out that Gandhi has held an elected position for over two decades and has traveled to various countries multiple times. He questioned why the expenses of these trips have not been made public, despite the existence of official records. Furthermore, he noted that Gandhi typically travels with three to four companions on each trip. During the media briefing, Patra raised concerns about the financial sources behind these travel expenses, asking, “We have details of Rahul Gandhi's income from 2013-14 to 2022-23. How did he spend ₹60 crores on foreign trips when his income during these ten years was approximately ₹11 crores? Who is funding him? If a foreign company has financed these trips, did it comply with the necessary regulations?”

Discrepancies in Income and Expenses

Patra also highlighted discrepancies between Gandhi's declared income and the alleged amounts spent on international travel, raising concerns about transparency and compliance with Indian laws.

Yearly Income and Expenditure Breakdown

Patra presented figures that he claimed illustrate the disparity between Rahul Gandhi's income and travel expenses over various years.
