Mahua Moitra's Controversial Statement
On Thursday, Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), ignited a significant political uproar with her derogatory comments directed at Union Home Minister Amit Shah. While addressing journalists about the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants infiltrating Indian territory, the Krishnanagar MP suggested that Amit Shah's head should be severed and displayed on a table as a form of protest.
Moitra expressed that if the borders of India cannot be secured and if intruders are entering in large numbers, disrespecting women and occupying land, then it is imperative to take drastic measures against Amit Shah. She demanded accountability from the central government regarding the issue of illegal immigration, asserting that the Prime Minister himself has acknowledged the presence of these intruders and the disrespect towards women. She posed the question, "Whose fault is this? Is it ours or yours?"
Her remarks directly attributed the growing concerns over illegal immigration, particularly in border states like West Bengal, to the central leadership. The BJP responded strongly to her statements, with party leader Pradeep Bhandari condemning them as "beyond politics, purely hateful, and filled with venom." In a post on social media, he remarked, "Disgusting, disgraceful! Mahua Moitra's comments transcend political discourse and reflect a new low under the capable leadership of Mamata Banerjee's TMC!"
