Voter ID Cards Found in Drain Spark Political Tensions

In a surprising turn of events, approximately 50 voter identification cards were discovered in a drain in the Nadia district of West Bengal on Tuesday, as reported by a police official. This incident has ignited a political dispute between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both parties accusing each other of conspiracy amidst the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists by the Election Commission.

The official indicated that the voter IDs were retrieved near the Pratappur Hospital Road in Navadwip. Upon verification, it was found that the names on these IDs matched those of several residents from Ward Number Four of the Navadwip municipality.

However, the individuals whose names appeared on the IDs claimed they possessed their own voter identification cards. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the authenticity of these IDs and how they ended up in the drain.

Following the recovery of the voter IDs, BJP leaders asserted that this incident corroborates their previous allegations of potential irregularities during the ongoing SIR process. Conversely, Trinamool leaders dismissed these claims, labeling the incident as a 'BJP conspiracy' and have called for an inquiry by the Election Commission.
