Political Controversy Arises Over Samajwadi Party's PDA Calendar 2026
Political Tensions Surround PDA Calendar Release
The release of the Samajwadi Party's PDA Calendar for 2026 has sparked significant political controversy, particularly as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized it for omitting the date for the construction of the Ram Temple. The term 'PDA' refers to the party's political strategy, which emphasizes the inclusion of backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari condemned the PDA calendar, labeling it a 'Pakistani calendar.' He argued that removing the Ram Temple date not only disrespects Lord Ram but also insults Indian culture, warning that the people of Uttar Pradesh would not accept this decision.
Details of the PDA Calendar
Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, unveiled the PDA calendar at the start of the new year, which was printed by state secretary Ajay Chaurasia. This calendar prominently features the birth and death anniversaries of social reformers and Muslim intellectuals associated with the PDA community. Similar to other religious calendars, it includes lists of important dates such as Amavasya, Purnima, fasting days, and festivals, along with national holidays, historical dates, and significant events related to social movements.
Promoting Social Unity and Awareness
The Samajwadi Party asserts that the PDA calendar aims to enhance social unity and awareness. Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that the unity, consciousness, and rights of the PDA community are central to the socialist movement. He further stated that history remains vibrant when shared with the younger generation in an accessible and organized manner. The absence of the Ram Temple construction date has intensified political tensions.
