Political Shift in West Bengal

Shortly after Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), updated her profile on X, sparking a new political debate regarding whether she has acknowledged the BJP's victory in the state. Her profile now describes her as the founding chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress and the Chief Minister of West Bengal (15th, 16th, and 17th Assemblies).

Previously, her profile referred to her as the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal. This change occurred immediately following the oath-taking ceremony for Adhikari at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where the BJP formed its first government in the state. In the recent assembly elections, the BJP secured a significant majority, winning 207 seats and ending the long-standing dominance of regional parties in Bengal politics.

After the victory, Adhikari met with Governor R.N. Ravi to formally claim the formation of the government. Describing this decision as 'historic,' the new Chief Minister promised a government focused on development, governance reforms, and political stability. The oath-taking ceremony transformed into a significant national political event, attended by several central ministers, chief ministers, and senior NDA leaders.

The update to Banerjee's social media profile has garnered attention, especially as it came just days after she strongly opposed calls for her resignation following the election defeat. In the aftermath of the results, the TMC leader publicly stated that she would not resign quietly and criticized the Election Commission for alleged irregularities during the elections. She also accused the commission of favoring the BJP and framed the losses of opposition alliances in other states as part of a broader political landscape.
