Political Commentator Detained Over Controversial YouTube Remarks on NEET Protests

Detention of T.G. Mohandas in Kochi

Kochi, August 9 - T.G. Mohandas, a right-wing political commentator, was taken into custody from his residence in Mattancherry on Sunday due to comments made in a YouTube video regarding the student protests against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak in Delhi. A team from the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police, investigating the matter, arrived at Mohandas's home located near Kuwappadam, accompanied by local police officials. At the time of their arrival, Mohandas was present at his residence.

Authorities reported that the police team gathered information regarding his YouTube account and the digital devices used for creating and uploading the video. Sources indicated that Mohandas would undergo extensive questioning as part of the investigation. The case was registered following a complaint alleging that the videos uploaded on Mohandas's YouTube channel, 'Patrika,' aimed to disrupt public peace and instill fear and unrest among the populace.

In the video, Mohandas allegedly stated that the student protests in Delhi could lead to an increase in incidents of 'rape.' He purportedly claimed that no complaints would be filed regarding such incidents, asserting that 'those involved in the protests enjoy rape, and some girls also take pleasure in their own assault.' Furthermore, he allegedly mentioned that if given authority, he would impose a curfew and disperse the protesters, stating that if they resisted, he would 'order firing.' He also claimed that even if some individuals died or became permanently disabled during such actions, the situation would be controlled within hours, and the bodies would be sent to the hospital.
