Political Activity Peaks as Candidates File Nominations in Assam Elections
Intense Political Engagement in Kokrajhar
Kokrajhar, Mar 23: The final day for submitting nominations for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections witnessed a surge in political activities in Kokrajhar, with various parties organizing processions and filing their nomination papers to demonstrate their strength.
Five candidates from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)—Sewli Mohilary, Robiram Narzary, Rupam Roy, Shobharam Basumatary, and Dr. Rezaul Karim—submitted their nominations to the District Election Officer after marching in a procession from Green Field.
Sewli Mohilary is running for the Kokrajhar (No. 3) seat, Robiram Narzary for Dotma (No. 2), Rupam Roy for Baokhungri (No. 4), Shobharam Basumatary for Gossaigaon (No. 1), and Dr. Rezaul Karim for Parbatjhora (No. 5).
Prior to filing their nominations, the BPF conducted a public meeting at Green Field, where party president Hagrama Mohilary addressed the crowd, expressing optimism about the party's prospects and the NDA's overall performance.
After the meeting, Mohilary told reporters that he believed the BPF faced minimal competition and confidently predicted a significant victory for the NDA in the upcoming Assembly elections.
He expressed strong faith in individual candidates, stating, “Sewli Mohilary will achieve a decisive win in Kokrajhar.”
The Chief Executive Member of BTR downplayed recent resignations from the party, labeling them as insignificant. “Many will come and go; the BPF remains open to all,” he remarked.
Other candidates also shared their optimism. Robiram Narzary expressed confidence in the BPF's performance, while Rupam Roy committed to working diligently for inclusive development.
In addition, candidates from other parties filed their nominations. Pratibha Brahma from the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) submitted her papers from Baokhungri in a separate procession, while Congress candidate Shephali Marak also filed her nomination from the same constituency following a rally from the party office.
With the nomination process now concluded, the electoral competition in Kokrajhar and surrounding areas is expected to heat up in the days ahead.
