Police Take Action After Cow Remains Found in Mathura District

In Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have registered a case against 24 identified individuals and 50 unknown persons following the discovery of cow remains near the Eidgah on Barsana Road. The police confirmed this information on Sunday.
The situation escalated on Saturday when the remains were found, leading to heightened tensions in the area. Additionally, a burnt cow carcass was discovered on the service lane of the Yamuna Expressway in the Mant region, inciting outrage among members of Hindu organizations.
Police Response
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar stated, "The remains were found late Saturday evening near the Eidgah. Upon receiving the report, members of cow protection groups and local Hindu organizations arrived at the scene and began to protest."
He added, "We quickly reached the location and managed to calm the crowd. Based on a complaint from cow protector Dheeraj Kaushik, we filed a case against 24 named individuals and 50 unidentified persons, and we are currently searching for those who disposed of the meat using CCTV footage."
Arrests Made
The SSP assured that strict action would be taken against the offenders. Later that evening, police reported that 11 suspects had been arrested under the Uttar Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prevention Act, following evidence gathered from CCTV footage and investigations.
The arrested individuals include Sakir, Sohail, Intizar, Ansar, Pintu, Aasin, Sunny, Usman, Firoz, Farukh, and Shekhar, all residents of Jain Gali in Govardhan. Authorities recovered two knives and two axes from their possession, along with horns and skin found in a bag at the crime scene.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the suspects executed the act of cow slaughter on Saturday evening in an empty plot behind a gym on Barsana Road, leading to the discovery of a cow's head and pieces of meat by passersby.
In the Mant area, police officer Gunjan Singh reported that the discovery of the burnt cow carcass on the service lane of the Yamuna Expressway sparked anger among Hindu activists, prompting them to protest. Witnesses claimed that the carcass had been lying there for two to three days before someone set it on fire.
Community Reaction
Upon learning of the incident, Hindu activists began to protest, demanding legal action. BJP leader Ashok Saraswat filed a complaint on behalf of the Radharani Cow Service Trust.
SHO Jasbir Singh from the Mant police station stated that the remains of the cow were seized and cremated, and efforts are underway to identify individuals present at the scene using surveillance evidence.
