Biswanath, Sept 19: Authorities in Biswanath have successfully rescued three minor girls from Chimpu, located in Arunachal Pradesh, following the arrest of two suspects linked to the kidnapping and trafficking of a 10-year-old girl.
Among the rescued minors is a four-year-old girl who had reportedly been in Arunachal Pradesh for eight months, according to police reports.
Biswanath Superintendent of Police, Asif Ahmed, emphasized the need for public awareness and vigilance, stating, “We must combat this issue. Many people are unaware that such incidents are occurring.”
The suspects, identified as Arjun Gowala and Bhaiti Nayak, were apprehended in connection with the alleged abduction of the minor from Nilpur Tea Garden on September 15.
Interrogation of the suspects provided leads on other children who may have been trafficked to Arunachal Pradesh.
Ahmed revealed that traffickers sold the children for significant sums, with the previously abducted minor fetching Rs 50,000, while the recently rescued girls were sold for Rs 1 lakh and Rs 22,000, respectively.
He added that the police are committed to raising awareness about child trafficking and related offenses.
“We are gathering extensive information from the suspects. The Biswanath police will continue their efforts. We encourage the community to stay informed and help spread awareness to prevent such crimes,” Ahmed stated.
This rescue operation follows the reported abduction of a 10-year-old Class II student from Nilpur Tea Garden on September 15, who was taken while playing.
At the time of the incident, her parents, who are laborers at the tea garden, were at work.
In a related effort, police in Arunachal Pradesh have ramped up their initiatives against child trafficking in recent months. On September 6, authorities rescued 34 children from various locations, including Assam, and arrested four individuals suspected of being part of a human trafficking network.
Officials are currently investigating to uncover the broader trafficking network, focusing on financial transactions, electronic evidence, and identifying additional connections.
