Police Rescue Seven Women in Trafficking Crackdown in Itanagar

Significant Operation Against Trafficking

Itanagar, March 29: In a significant operation targeting immoral trafficking, law enforcement from the Banderdewa Police Station successfully rescued seven women and apprehended two suspects during a coordinated effort on Friday, as reported by Naharlagun SP Dr. Nyelam Nega on Saturday.

Following reliable intelligence, police executed raids at two locations, NK Lodge and Lovely Lodging, where it was alleged that the victims were being exploited for sexual services.

The rescued individuals, primarily from Assam, come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and were reportedly deceived into this trade with false promises.

At NK Lodge, which is owned by Kuru Richo and has been leased to Nazrul Islam for the past year, the manager, Moina Das, allegedly confessed during questioning that all six rooms had been utilized solely for immoral trafficking activities over the last eight months.

Similarly, Lovely Lodging, owned by Nalo alias Tagin Baido, had been leased to Tate Taha and subsequently sub-leased to Fardaus Ahmed for more than a year. Ahmed admitted during interrogation that the premises had been involved in trafficking activities for the past three to four months.

Authorities disclosed that the operation's method involved luring vulnerable women from Assam and forcing them into sex work at these lodgings.

Both Moina Das (34), from Dhemaji district, and Fardaus Ahmed (35), from Morigaon district, have been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, along with other applicable laws.
