Police Officer Arrested for Accepting Bribe in Mathura

Bribery Incident in Mathura
In Mathura, an officer from the anti-corruption unit apprehended a constable stationed at the Govind Nagar police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from an e-rickshaw driver. This information was confirmed by a senior official on Friday.
The officer indicated that following this incident, the constable has been suspended, and a case has been registered against him at the Farah police station.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City Area) Rajiv Kumar Singh, the constable, Shubham Chauhan, was reported by Sanju Thakur, an e-rickshaw driver from Govind Nagar, who claimed that Chauhan demanded ₹20,000 monthly for allowing him to operate his e-rickshaw in the area.
Singh elaborated that Chauhan later insisted on a one-time payment of ₹50,000 for granting permission to drive the rickshaw, threatening that he would not be allowed to operate if he refused.
Upon receiving the complaint, the anti-corruption team instructed the e-rickshaw driver to hand over chemically marked notes to the constable, arranging a meeting behind the police station on Thursday.
As soon as the accused took the money, members of the anti-corruption unit, who were hiding nearby, swiftly apprehended him.
The Additional Superintendent of Police reported that the constable was taken to the Farah police station, where a case was filed against him.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar stated that following the arrest of Shubham Chauhan, he was immediately suspended, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated.
