Patna, April 29: The notorious Sultanganj shootout incident in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, took a shocking turn when the main suspect, Ramdhani Yadav, was killed during a police encounter early Wednesday morning.

This incident has heightened fears regarding public safety and has created a tense atmosphere in the area.

As per police reports, Ramdhani Yadav, along with two accomplices, had surrendered following the brazen murder of Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan, who was shot dead, while Municipal Chairman Raj Kumar, also known as Guddu, was left critically injured.

Authorities took Yadav to a site to recover the firearm used in the earlier shooting and to collect further evidence.

However, the situation escalated unexpectedly when the suspect, allegedly in collusion with unidentified individuals, opened fire on the police team.

In self-defense, the police returned fire, resulting in a violent exchange. Yadav was critically injured during this encounter and collapsed at the scene.

He was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The encounter also resulted in injuries to three police officers, who are currently hospitalized and under medical observation.

Following the incident, senior officials, including District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary, SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav, and SDM Vikas Kumar, visited the hospital to assess the situation.

In response to the incident, security measures have been significantly enhanced throughout the district, with additional police personnel deployed to avert any further disturbances.

SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav addressed the media, asserting that the police acted solely in self-defense, as the accused posed a lethal threat, leaving them no choice but to retaliate.

Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to dismantle the larger criminal network associated with this case.

A search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend other suspects involved.

Despite ongoing tensions in parts of Bhagalpur, police have assured the public that law and order are being maintained.

Officials reiterated their dedication to thoroughly investigating the case and ensuring that all involved parties are brought to justice.

Earlier on Tuesday, around 4 p.m., Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan was shot dead in his office at the Sultanganj Nagar Parishad.

Three armed assailants entered his office and opened fire, killing him instantly. In the same attack, Municipal Chairman Raj Kumar alias Guddu was also shot and is currently receiving critical medical treatment.
