Police Encounter in Bhubaneswar: Notorious Drug Trafficker Injured


Bhubaneswar: In a significant police operation late Thursday night, Sheikh Jamshed, a well-known trafficker of brown sugar, was injured during an encounter in the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar. This operation was executed by the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police.


Reports indicate that Jamshed played a pivotal role in the local drug trade. Following a tip-off, law enforcement launched a strategic operation to apprehend him. However, when officers approached for the arrest, Jamshed allegedly fired at them, leading to a police response. He was shot in the leg during the confrontation.


From the scene, authorities seized brown sugar valued at Rs 20 lakh, marking a significant disruption to the narcotics network in the state capital.


Jamshed was immediately transported to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he is currently in serious but stable condition under medical observation.


Police officials confirmed that Jamshed had been under close watch for some time and was linked to several narcotics-related cases. This encounter has been hailed as a major victory in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Odisha.


Interestingly, there has been an uptick in police encounters across Odisha recently, with ten criminals reported injured in eight separate incidents over the past month.
