Police Capture Gang Involved in Electric Wire Theft in Bahraich

Police Encounter Leads to Arrest of Wire Theft Gang

Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), August 8 – In a significant operation, law enforcement apprehended five individuals linked to a gang involved in stealing electric wires in the Nanpara area of Bahraich district. One suspect managed to escape during the incident, as reported by the police on Saturday. Police Superintendent (SP) Vishwajit Srivastava shared that late Friday night, authorities received a tip-off indicating that the wire thieves were gathering near the Saryu canal bank in Hada Basedi to dispose of stolen goods and plan a major crime.

Based on this intelligence, a joint team from the Nanpara police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) set up a blockade. Upon noticing the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting the police to return fire in self-defense, resulting in a gunshot wound to Kadeer, a resident of the Mati police station area in Barabanki, who was hit in the left leg. Srivastava confirmed that the police also apprehended four of Kadeer's accomplices who were in a vehicle.

Kadeer has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Investigations revealed that he has multiple criminal cases against him, including murder. The other arrested suspects have been identified as Krishna Kumar, Kuldeep Gupta, Harendra Gupta, and Udayraj Chauhan, all hailing from the Reusa police station area in Sitapur.

Authorities are currently gathering more information regarding the criminal backgrounds of all arrested individuals. From the suspects, police recovered a country-made pistol, a cartridge, an empty shell, a Maruti Eco car used in the theft, several bundles of cut electric wires, and wire-cutting tools. The SP noted that one gang member escaped the scene, and a dedicated team is working to apprehend him.

The ongoing incidents of wire theft in the Nanpara area have been disrupting electricity supply, causing significant inconvenience to residents. Just the previous night, thieves had cut electric wires, leading to a formal complaint being lodged at the Nanpara police station.
