Couple arrested for their decade-old crimes.
According to Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datt Singh, the suspect has been identified as Rakesh Raut. He was arrested by the Chandrasekharpur police, where he has approximately six cases registered against him. Additionally, there are several criminal cases against him in other police jurisdictions. After his arrest, police recovered eight gold chains from his possession, three of which have been identified by the victims. The police are now working to identify other victims as they investigate further.
- CP Suresh Dev Datt Singh noted that Rakesh Raut has a history of involvement in chain snatching crimes.
- He had left the criminal world about ten years ago to start a business, during which he established around 15 shops and lived a normal life.
- Recently, due to financial strain and debts, he resumed chain snatching, with his wife as an equal partner in the crimes.
- Rakesh and his wife executed their crimes in a cunning manner. Raut would target a woman to snatch her chain, and then his wife would join him on a motorcycle.
- The couple appeared to be an ordinary pair traveling together, which prevented suspicion from the public and police alike.
