Police and AMU Conduct Joint Raid, Seize Illegal Items from Hostel Room
Joint Operation at Aligarh Muslim University
In a collaborative effort, security officials from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and local police executed a search operation in a hostel room, uncovering several illicit items. During the raid, authorities confiscated cartridges, counterfeit currency, and various other materials. Reports indicate that mobile phones were also seized during this operation. According to police sources, the search was conducted on Wednesday evening based on information received earlier that day.
Illegal Occupancy in the Room
Naveed Khan, the proctor of AMU, confirmed the incident, stating that initial investigations revealed a person named Shevaz was illegally residing in the room. He further explained that Shevaz allegedly evicted the legitimate occupants and had been living there unlawfully for several months.
Shevaz's Admission to AMU
Naveed Khan mentioned that one of the legitimate occupants has been detained for questioning to determine how Shevaz managed to take over the room. Documents recovered from the room indicate that Shevaz had previously enrolled in a course at AMU. However, records obtained during the investigation reveal that he was an unregistered student without the right to reside in the hostel.
Connection to Recent Shooting Incident
According to police sources, the raid is linked to a shooting incident that occurred on Monday in the Civil Lines area of Aligarh, which led to the detention of three individuals on Tuesday. During the interrogation, Shevaz's name emerged, prompting the investigation team to search the hostel room. Authorities have stated that a thorough investigation into the entire matter is ongoing.
